Biografie

Rachida Dati is a French Politician from the Republican Party and was Minister of Justice from 2007 to 2009 during the Sarkozy Presidency. Since then she has been a Member of the Popular European Party (The Christian Democrats).

From 2008, she has been Mayor of the 7th District of Paris and a member of the Paris Municipal Advisory Committee. In the European Parliament, she is a member of the Civil Liberties Justice and Internal Affairs Commission; as well as a member of the Delegation for relations with the Maghreb Countries; and a member of the Delegation in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Mediterranean Union.

She is an expert in Terrorism and national and international security, and as such, has participated in the European Parliament initiative regarding the prevention of the radicalization and recruitment of European citizens by terrorist organizations.

Regarding security she has a profound knowledge of the Penal System and the current state of European prisons, and specifically the challenges France faces in this regard.  Due to her Maghreb heritage - she was the first person born in Morocco to be a French Government Minister - she has a special interest in Africa.  She is an expert on the role that the European Union needs to play, along with East and Central Africa to guarantee the security of African and European citizens.

Familiar with the situation in North Africa and the Middle East, she has created a series of proposals for the growth and evolution of these regions in order for them to become stable and prosperous areas.
